Global Population Growth Continues to Slow

Global population growth has slowed dramatically in recent decades due to rapidly-falling birth rates in most parts of the world. This has led to a series of decreases in population forecasts for the world in the remainder of the 21st century.

Fears of an over-populated planet had raised dystopian fears of food, water and land shortages in an ever-increasingly-crowded world. Now, the focus is increasingly on the economic impact that slower population growth will have on the world, particularly as population growth is the slowest, and sometimes negative, in some of the world’s leading economic centers.
